Britney Bails 2 Hours Before Show

9:12 a.m. EST April 2, 2004 - Just two hours before the show, Britney Spears fans battling traffic while heading to Thursday's 8 p.m. concert found out there would be no show.

The official word: Spears is sick.

This was not the first time the singer canceled on her fans. When she hurt her knee in March, Spears was a no-show in Chicago and Detroit.

Thursday's news was doubly disappointing for Debbie Smith, who drove five hours from Kentucky so her daughter could see the Princess of Pop.

"Well, we went up to Chicago, and that got canceled, so we changed our tickets. Came here, and the now this is canceled," said disappointed mom, Debbie Smith.

Smith was just one of many fans thinking the announcement was a cruel April Fool's prank. She returned to the hotel to confirm the news to her daughter, Mandy.

"We drove a long way for nothing. And a lot of money, wasted," Mandy Smith said.

Britney's concert was rescheduled for June 29, a day after Christina Aguilera is scheduled to perform at the Gund.

Fans were asked to hang on to their tickets. They will be redeemed that day.
